Celebrating Net Zero week: Our commitment to a greener planet

This Net Zero Week, we’re excited to share our work to positively impact our planet. In May 2023, after months of dedicated work with Positive Planet, we achieved a significant milestone and became a carbon-neutral company!

How we achieved carbon neutrality

Partnering with Positive Planet, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of our carbon footprint, focusing on four key areas:

➡ Direct emissions: Company vehicles, buildings, and facilities
➡Indirect emissions: Purchased electricity
➡Upstream emissions: Employee commuting, business travel, supplier transportation, and goods/services procurement
➡Downstream emissions: Not applicable to our service-based operations
Through this analysis, we discovered that most of our emissions stem from upstream activities like business travel, commuting, and capital goods.

Our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint

Carbon neutrality is a continued commitment. We are currently recalculating for last year and looking at how we can make reductions this year. While we continue to offset our emissions by supporting sustainable projects globally, our long-term goal is to achieve net zero by actively reducing our emissions through sustainable procurement and supply chain practices. Here’s how we’re planning to get there:

➡Raising internal awareness and providing training to help employees reduce their emissions;
➡Reviewing and updating policies to encourage ‘active travel’ such as cycling, walking, or car sharing.

Expanding our role in the Retail Energy Market

Beyond our internal efforts, we’re examining our broader role in the retail energy market.

Whilst we operate within clearly defined regulatory parameters and will not instigate or design Net Zero programmes, our role at the heart of retail energy positions us to potentially play an important role in the delivery of such programmes.

Over the coming year, we will undertake an assessment to better understand where and how RECCo can help facilitate the innovations that will be crucial to Net Zero.
