Energy consumers in the UK who use prepayment meters have historically been charged more for their energy than those who pay via direct debit. Following selection by Ofgem, we are developing systems and processes to levelise energy bills between prepayment meter and direct debit customers.
Yesterday, Thursday 30 November, alongside representatives from Ofgem, we held a progress webinar to confirm when the new levelisation system will be implemented, how the scheme will operate, the changes being made to REC legal text, the latest data reporting requirements, and to answer key questions.
Key dates confirmed
During the webinar, the team confirmed the following key dates.
13th December: The consultation on REC Change Proposal R0147 closes. This change will introduce the scheme to reconcile standing charges from the 1st of April 2024.
2nd January: Ofgem’s statutory consultation on levelisation closes – Ofgem opened their statutory consultation on the 23rd of November. You can read more here.
9th February: This is the deadline for Suppliers to confirm their contact and financial data with RECCo. We need recipient addresses for SharePoint access and invoice submission, bank details so payments can be made, and a contact for matters of non-compliance.
WC/ 11th March: We’ll hold our next webinar. Keep an eye out for more details – this will be held before the system goes live.
1st April: The reconciliation system goes live.
Early May: First invoice run.
Early June: First payments made to Suppliers.
