RECCo confirms new Chair and NED reappointments

REC Parties have voted in favour of the appointment of Hannah Nixon as the next Chair of the RECCo Board, effective 1 April 2025, following the completion of Dr Chris Anastasi’s six-year term on 31 March 2025.

A majority decision from REC Parties voted in favour of the new Chair appointment and the reappointment of three Non-Executive Directors in accordance with REC requirements:

  • Paul Hallas: Reappointed for a second and final three-year term
  • Roshan Awatar: Reappointed for a third and final two-year term
  • Helen Charlton: Reappointed for a third and final two-year term

These appointments reinforce RECCo’s commitment to strong governance, industry expertise, and consumer advocacy.

Commenting on her appointment, Hannah Nixon said: “It will be a privilege to succeed Chris as Chair of RECCo and to build on the strong foundations that he has built over the last six years. RECCo plays a pivotal role in ensuring Britain continues to benefit from a reliable and efficient retail energy market as it transitions to a net-zero economy. I look forward to working with colleagues and industry to deliver for consumers on the challenges ahead.”

Hannah Nixon brings extensive regulatory and leadership experience, including senior roles at Ofgem and the National Energy System Operator. The Board is confident in her ability to guide RECCo through its next phase of evolution.

As Chris Anastasi prepares to complete his six years of dedicated service, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for his outstanding leadership and commitment. Chris has played a pivotal role in shaping RECCo, steering the Board through significant transformation, and fostering a culture of transparency and accountability. He has also helped build a strong leadership team focused on ensuring the continued effectiveness and efficiency of REC services on behalf of our stakeholders.

Chris’s leadership will leave a lasting impact. He has guided the Board through key milestones and supervised the development of RECCo from the beginning. His contributions include implementing the Code Manager Services, integrating Ofgem’s faster and more reliable switching arrangements into the REC, and successfully launching the Market Stabilisation Charge and Prepayment Levelisation schemes. Chris has laid a solid foundation for the future, with RECCo well-positioned to continue evolving and meeting industry challenges.

Dr Chris Anastasi said: “I am delighted that Hannah Nixon will be the next Chair of RECCo. She has considerable knowledge of the energy sector and understands the important and complementary roles played by the public and private sectors. She’s also a very experienced and successful Chair and Non-Executive Director and, as such, very well placed to lead the organisation through the next stage of its development as the retail energy market and code governance evolve over the next few years. I wish her, the Board, and the RECCo operational team much success as they continue to safeguard the retail energy market for all stakeholders.”

The voting process closed on 31 January 2025.
