London Roadshow recap: Stakeholder insights and key takeaways

Following the success of our first Roadshow in Manchester, which brought together a wide range of stakeholders, we were delighted to host our second event in London on 31st October. A big thank you to everyone who joined us and met with the wider RECCo team.

Both events reinforced the value of face-to-face interactions, allowing us to delve deeper into your challenges and explore how RECCo can better support you through our services. Looking ahead, we are committed to expanding our events programme for 2025, combining in-person opportunities with our ongoing webinars.

An overview of the event

As in Manchester, the morning session followed a “You Said, We Did” format to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to addressing stakeholder feedback. This approach ensures that our REC Services continue to align with your needs and priorities.

In the afternoon, we discussed key medium-term operational programmes, such as Code Reform, the evolution of the Code Manager service, and the introduction of new digital services. Workshops throughout the day captured valuable stakeholder feedback, and we thoroughly enjoyed the lively discussions about how RECCo’s operational programmes can help the industry adapt to market challenges and deliver positive consumer outcomes.

Key takeaways

  • Enquiry Service Enhancements: Stakeholders were particularly encouraged to hear about the 28 changes underway to the Enquiry Service, designed to ensure it evolves in line with the evolving market. Additional suggestions included ensuring that the access process is proportional to RECCo’s growing stakeholder community. There was also interest in how we could provide performance reporting on the use of the Secure Data Exchange Service (SDEP).
  • Code Reform: Stakeholders showed general support for RECCo’s approach to Ofgem’s Code Reform programme, with key areas identified for future focus by licensed code managers:
    • Fair and proportionate charging
    • Ensuring the timely invocation of changes
    • High-quality change solutions and process effectiveness
    • Robust support for code parties
    • Effective service delivery
  • Energy Theft Reduction Strategy: There was strong interest in RECCo’s Theft Reduction Strategy for the coming year. Several stakeholders provided suggestions, which will be reviewed by the team in collaboration with the Energy Theft Reduction Expert Group (ETREG).
  • REC Change R0137: Stakeholders were keen to learn about RECCo’s next steps regarding REC Change R0137, which mandates that non-domestic suppliers use only Third-Party Intermediaries (TPIs) adhering to the TPI Code of Practice. In light of the recent Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s (DESNZ) consultation on regulating TPIs in the retail energy market, there was broad support for moving R0137 forward for Ofgem approval.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Attendees emphasised the importance of enhancing the Code Manager support mechanisms to ensure that all stakeholders engaging with the REC understand key channels, committees, and information sources relevant to their roles and responsibilities. We’ll work closely with the REC Code Manager to improve our onboarding services going forward.

Thank you again to everyone who attended for their feedback, we are pleased to report that 100% of attendees felt we covered the right topics and provided ample opportunities for meaningful discussion.
